Federal Judge Approves Nationwide’s $5M Robocall Settlement

Nationwide Robocall Settlement

On Wednesday a federal judge approved a $5 million settlement in which Nationwide Mutual Insurance is accused of making unsolicited robocalls to consumers in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA).

The preliminary deal will be divided between three classes, including one class made up of 230 consumers on the national Do Not Call Registry who received telemarketing calls about automotive and homeowners’ insurance from Nationwide.  The other classes include recipients of calls made by third-party advertising companies contracted by Nationwide whose calls were directed to the insurance giant’s sales team.

The plaintiffs claim that these robocalls were made with a dialing system and without proper permissions, furthering that Nationwide did not have safeguards in place to ensure TCPA compliance. Nationwide has denied all allegations but agreed to settle the suit due to risk and expenses.
