The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) have joined forces recently to enforce Do-Not-Call (DNC) policies across the US-Canadian border.

FTC Chairwoman, Edith Ramirez and Jean-Pierre Blais, the Chairman of the CRTC signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) making the international effort official. The memorandum was passed with a 4-0 vote on behalf of the CRTC.

The MOU will encourage investigative assistance between the two agencies when it comes to Canada’s 2014 anti-spam law. It will also offer aid with DNC cross-border regulation.

“As we see more cross-border fraud, we must often rely on our enforcement partners around the world to help protect U.S. consumers. This agreement will enhance cooperation with the CRTC as we work together to combat illegal telemarketing and spam,” said Chairwoman Ramirez.

In compliance with the MOU, U.S. and Canadian authorities are obligated to preserve the confidentiality of material that has been shared.
