TCPA Violations in the News

Caribbean Cruise Lines is settling a class action lawsuit for robocalls that could result in recipients collecting almost $76 million. The company is accused of making illegal robocalls in 2011 and 2012, violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA). On Tuesday, an Illinois federal judge said that the settlement did not put a cap on the number of claimed calls the company could challenge. However, the judge overruled the class’ request to enforce the settlement agreement considering the settlement administrator has challenged more than 100,000 of the 184,000 calls.

Navient Solutions LLC

On Tuesday, Denise Baker urged a Virginia federal judge to sign off on a $2.5 million class-action deal due to claims that Navient Solutions LLC harassed her with unwanted robocalls. Her class action suit filed in October claims the company violated the TCPA with the use of an automatic telephone dialing system. Baker claims that a recent D.C. Circuit Court ruling strengthened her core autodialer defense.
