The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is leading a coalition that is strongly encouraging the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to come up with a more narrow definition of “autodialer.” This new definition would replace the former broad definition under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) that was struck down by the D.C. Circuit Court in March 2018. The Chamber of Commerce argues that the broad definition would hinder the ability of companies to contact their clients and members with important account information, and says it would help limit litigation.
